This is a SERIAL-USB converter based on the integrate FTDI FT232RL. The pinout of this board is compatible with FTDI cable and it’s perfect to work with Arduino and other 5V boards.
It can be used for general applications too.
The main difference between this board and the FTDI cable is that the highlighting pin is DTR instead of RTS.
The DTR pin realize an Arduino auto-reset when it is actived. The marked pins BLK and GRN correnspond to the colored wires of the FTDI cable.
The black wire of the FTDI cable is the ground, the green one is CTS.
Use these BLK and GRN pins to align the FTDI basic board with your Arduino target.
This board is endowed with TX and RX LEDs to highlight the serial traffic and to ensure that the board is correctly working.
This board has been designed to reduce development costs using Arduino and to increase usability.
One of the more interesting characteristics of this board is a bridge on the back side that allows to select between 3.3V/5V configuration (both for power and for IO level).
By default this configuration is set to 5V, but you can cut the trace and add a solder jumper if you need to switch to 3.3V.
